6 Secrets To A Successful Brand Photoshoot
With extensive personal experience in brand photoshoots, and assisting clients in theirs, I thought it's time to share a few of my secrets... After trial, error, and seeing all of the good and the bad with photoshoots, I am letting you in on some of my best tips. Save this page or add it to your favorites, you'll want to refer back to this later!
Listen close, you won't want to miss this!
Secret #1 - Plan Your Poses
Something I love doing is creating a Pinterest board of professional poses leading up to the shoot. Practice in the mirror before your photoshoot, when the time comes it will make posing easier and seem more natural. Get up close and personal, it doesn't have to be a full-body shot all the time! Have your photographer utilize your hands, arms, feet (in some heels!) anything that can be turned into content for social media or say a blog post cover! (Wink wink)
Secret #2 - Layer Up
Photographers usually have a limit to how many outfits they shoot... so bring layers like blazers you can take off so it looks like a whole new fit! If you don't plan to do a new shoot every season, think about outfits that will look good year-round and plan accordingly.
Secret #3 - Ask for B&W Options
Something most probably forget, but is nice to throw into the mix, is a B&W photo for your site or Instagram feed. Sometimes you need options to break up similar-looking photos so ask the photographer to add in a folder of black and white options.
Secret #4 - Bring Props
Flat lays are sooo important! Bring aesthetically pleasing props like books, business cards, items with your name or company name on them, laptop & electronics, mugs, anything else to represent your brand. Throw some action pictures into the mix! Use your phone as a prop like you're Face Timing or calling a client, hold your laptop, and get shots of you 'working'! Options are endless with these action photos.
Secret #5 - Think TImeless
These images will be used again and again in different creative ways, think timeless when you're planning your shoot. Choose a location that represents you, the values, and the aesthetics of your brand. I would stay away from busy areas, or locations that work great for the season, but maybe not forever.
Secret #6 - Stay Local
We know it can be a challenge to even find the right photographer... but remember to find someone near you so you can stay consistent in future brand shoots!
I hope some of my inside secrets have inspired you for your next brand photoshoot. I wish I would have known all of these tips from the start!
